The Science:

Human gastric cancer specimen that over-expressed for HER2. This comparative study required that half of the donors be ethnically Asian and half be non-Asian.

The Challenge:

Create a cohort of gastric cancer specimen meeting the demographic criteria, then economically identify the subset of over-expression HER2, all within 30 days.

The Folio Solution:

We offered our client a "try before you buy" program. We cut 5 sections from each of 100 candidate tumor blocks and sent them to the client who determined which cases had high expression for HER2 (about 10%). Folio quickly validated those results in our own CLIA lab by both IHC and FISH. Within the 30 day time frame, the client received the entire block from only the donor cases of interest. This strategy is often used when the client needs FFPE blocks of tissue with specific biomarkers or other inclusion criteria, but would like to avoid the expense of buying many blocks that subsequently turn out to not meet all of the required criteria.
